Grassroots Academy

For the 2009 season, HNFC is launching a new initiative for our little ones aged 6yrs & under.  We are calling it our “ Grassroots Academy”.

The Academy is a program, teaching our kids the fundamentals and correct techniques of the “Beautiful Game” in a fun and safe environment.

This initiative will also serve as a learning centre for new and existing coaches, in giving them the support, confidence and knowledge to coach our juniors now and for the future.

Grassroots will be an in-house program and will not form part of the WJFA Saturday competition.  All teams involved in the Academy will train on the same night.

Our Kids

The most important part of this Academy is TO HAVE FUN.  If its fun, your child learns quicker, stays motivated & focused for longer, and becomes more confident within themselves.

Each session is progressive in its structure always building on what has been learnt.

Players will start the first half of the session learning football skills and techniques, which will then lead into the second half of actual game time against other teams from the Academy.

The Coaches

Our biggest hurdle every season is getting people to stand up to coach our teams.  What has come to light, is that most people would like to help the team their child is in, but are not confident to do so because they feel they do not have the skills or knowledge for the game.

NZ Accredited coaches will run and lead the Academy sessions, teaching and guiding the team coaches on each session.

As well as the knowledge passed over by the Academy coaches, the WBOP Federation will be supporting this program by running NZ Football accredited coaching courses for our club.
